POLICE BRUTALITY IN US: WHAT DO AMERICANS THINK?
US police are continuously criticized over fatal shootings of and brutality against African Americans, who are killed and incarcerated in disproportionate numbers.
In 2016, US police officers fatally shot nearly 1,000 people, amounting to three deaths each day, according to an investigation by the Washington Post.
A disproportionate number of those killed in 2016 were black, and about a quarter involved a victim who had a mental illness. However, on countless occasions police officers are acquitted of charges.
